    Description
    Opening the clickable map

    On the “Condition of the Road Network” page of the MTQ website, select a region in the dropdown menu of regions or on the map.

    Lets you display the clickable map, centered on the chosen region. All the map themes are checked off by default.

    Remark : If the region selected is “Nord-du-Québec (Baie-James)”, the web page of the Société de développement de la Baie-James site is displayed.

    Check off (to display) or uncheck (to mask) a theme of the legend.

    Lets you select the themes to be displayed or masked. It is possible that a checked off theme is not displayed when the map range is at the common scale. A new image is generated automatically according to the themes selected (without changing the zone displayed).

    Click on the map border with the left mouse button.

    Lets you move the contents of the display window in a given direction without changing the map scale.

    Click on the corresponding icon.

    Lets you display the map in the previous position or the next position.

    The repositioning is done only according to the history of the views (map range and territory displayed) and not according to the history of the selected themes.

    Click on the corresponding icon.

    Lets you return to the initial map, namely the one displayed when the clickable map was opened.

    Click on the corresponding icon and:

    1. click on a given point on the map;
    2. or keep the left mouse button depressed to define a given zone (selection rectangle).

    Lets you increase the map scale to view a smaller but more detailed part. The smallest map range is 15 km.

    It is possible that a checked off theme will not be displayed when the map range is at the common scale.

    Click on the corresponding icon and click on a given point on the map.

    Lets you reduce the map scale to view a larger but less detailed part. The biggest map range is 500 km.

    It is possible that a checked off theme is not displayed when the map range is at the common scale.

    Click on the corresponding icon and click on a given point on the map.
    Lets you refocus the map on a point of interest without changing the map range.

    Click on the corresponding icon and click as close as possible to the corresponding icon on the map. A search is run for the selected themes. The information appears in a window entitled “Information”.

    Look up the detailed information on the selected region

    In the “Information” window, click on the name of the region (hyperlink).

    Lets you open a new web page showing the condition of the Road Network for the entire region selected.

    Look up the detailed road conditions on the selected highway when available

    In the “Information” window, click on the road number of the highway or autoroute.

    Lets you open a new web page showing the condition of the Road Network for the highway or autoroute selected.

    Look up detailed information on a given job site
    In the “Information” window, select the traffic cone icon or the job site location.

    Lets you open a new web page showing in detail the information on the chosen job site.

    Road work

    The slowdowns caused by road work in progress on the Road Network under the MTQ’s responsibility are indicated on the clickable map by means of the following symbol: Example of the Roadworks icon. You must click on the map to obtain the location and duration of a slowdown. The information then will appear in an information window displayed on the left side of the map. For more details, click on Example of the Roadworks iconor on the hyperlink indicating the location of the work.

    Slowdowns caused by road work are presented as follows:

    Slowdowns

    Slowdown : Weekends
    The work slows down traffic only on weekends.

    Slowdown: Weekdays
    The work slows down traffic only on weekdays.

    Slowdown: Permanent (weekends and weekdays)
    The work slows down traffic only on weekends.

    Slowdown : Major (weekdays or weekends)
    Word slowing down traffic substantially or on weekends, which can result in major congestion

    Some road work performed on secondary roads is not displayed on the map in order to speed up downloading. To complete a search, go to the tabs By road or By region.

    Prevailing road conditions

    Information on the road conditions prevailing on Québec autoroutes and highways south of the 49th parallel is indicated on the map by the following symbol: Roadway icon - Coming soon

    You must click on the map to obtain the road conditions on a given autoroute or highway. The information will appear in a window displayed on the left side of the map.

    Road conditions are indicated by the colour codes described below:

    Roadway icon – Good : Be careful! Good

    Good or reduced visibility

    Roadway icon – Fair : Do not be caught off guard! Allow extra time! FAir

    Clear road
    Zero visibility in places

    Snow patches or Ice patches
    Good, reduced or zero visibility in places

    Partly snow-covered or Partly ice covered
    Good, reduced visibility or zero visibility in places

    Snow-covered road
    Good or reduced visibility

    Roadway icon – Critical : If possible, delay your trip! Critical

    Icy road
    Good or reduced visibility

    Snow-covered road
    Zero visibility in places or zero visibility

    Partly snow-covered or Partly ice covered
    Zero visibility

    Warnings

    Major incidents in progress on the Road Network are indicated on the map by the following symbol: Warning icon

    You must click on the map to obtain information on the incident in progress. The information will appear in a window displayed on the left side of the map.

    When you click on the map, the warnings are presented in the following order:
    • All of Québec
    • Region
    • Section in question (autoroute or highway)

    The territory is divided into 14 administrative regions identified by the following symbol: Administratives Regions icon . To deactivate the territorial subdivision, you must deselect the box provided for this purpose.

    Other Roads

    The term “Other Roads” is used to refer to unnumbered roads not represented by route numbers.
